The Goldilocks Dice System is a TTRPG engine designed with the idea of a "happy medium" success criterion. Too much can be just as bad as not enough, but in different ways, so this system asks players to roll for the middle values on their dice, rather than looking for the highest or lowest value possible. Indeed, both those values represent disaster!
This system inherently makes failure far more interesting, because the roll automatically inspires different ways, and consequences, of failing depending on whether your roll is too high (overdoing it) or too low (not doing enough).
This is also the engine behind Dinosaur Sleuths In Rural England.

This. This is one of the most absolutely UNIQUE dice systems I've ever seen. And I'm modifying it only slightly to power a game I'm writing as we speak. I'll drop you a link when it's all finished and posted!
Well done, Valery!
Thanks for the comment!
The idea came out of a Twitter discussion about "people have done roll high systems and roll low systems, what else could you do with dice?" and out of my glib remark "roll to the middle!" the concept took form.
I am really eager to see what you do with it - I love when people use my things to make new stuff!

It's ready!
I grabbed one of the community copies - I like what you've done with the core concept! The cartoon world Dark Souls theme also really intriguing. I'm not a solo game player by preference (though I don't see why your game couldn't be played as group+GM). The use of tokens was fun, I had a tokens strand in my Finding Styles game (although a different take on them).
I always said I’d never write using someone else’s system, but this system and the associated Jam are highly intriguing
Do it! Make this the one where you abandon your principles and turn to the Dark Side!
